Windermere is not only a vibrant, charming town but also home to England’s largest lake. You’ll be staying just over a mile away, so there’s ample opportunity to visit and explore everything Windermere has to offer. Without having to leave the fabulous Wild Boar Inn, you’ll have access to a wealth of activities such as axe throwing and archery. And at the end of the day, you can relax by a roaring fire, sample local ales, fine wine and fantastic dining with your fellow travel buddies.
Nestled in the ancient Gilpin Valley, The Wild Boar Inn is brimming with character and warmth. From its cosy fireplaces to the rustic interior, you’ll feel right at home the minute you walk through the door. This place offers you the chance to bring out your inner adventurer so make sure to pack a pair of wellies to explore the ancient woodland surrounding the Inn or try your hand at clay pigeon shooting or axe throwing.
If you’re a foodie then there’s plenty for you too with the opportunity to try their alternative afternoon tea, sample a paddle of the Inn’s local ales which are all brewed on site, or you can try out some of their exquisite food served from their Grill & Smokehouse open kitchen.
You and your fellow travellers will have the opportunity to explore the area however you like. Your Tour Guide will take guests on an organised tour of the area stopping off at famous landmarks and attractions depending on what everyone wants to see. Educate yourself at Wray Castle, Lakeland Motor Museum or The Windermere Jetty Museum or visit Beatrix Potter’s Home, where she wrote many of her best-loved books.
But of course, Lake Windermere itself will be a must-see visit. Experience the largest natural lake in England, an ideal base for walks in the Lake District. Whether you’re looking for a short stroll or a longer trek, there are plenty of routes to follow for walkers of all ages and ability levels. Whatever the weather, England’s largest lake and its surrounding area are packed with many things for you to enjoy, whether you want to be active or relaxed.
